Summer Breeze Dance ~ Spring 2016

Tuesday 8 - 9pm @ KRC, Spring 2016

Class  1 ~ April 5
  • 知道不知道
  •  A new term starts! Again, we will go slowly and focus on the details. As we learn this piece, the essential techniques will be covered and practiced. Dance is not just do the movements. Dance is storytelling, with your body and soul.
Class  2 ~ April 12
  • We have learnt half of the dance. Very nice basic training, very useful to strength all the building blocks. Since there is no repetition in the whole piece, we need to memorize every move, which becomes a challenge for busy moms. ;)

Class  3 ~ April 19
  • A minor injury happened to my shoulder and neck. I was pampered by the group, got a massage treatment, feels so special. ;) I spend more time talking than dancing in this class. We reviewed the first half of the dance many many times, focusing on the details. By the end of the class, the group delivered a very neat performance without my lead. Yeah!
Class  4 ~ April 26
  • We managed to learn the whole piece! This piece has no repetition and we only come together to dance one hour a week, so it is a challenge for all of us to memorize it. In the end, we finished it without too much trouble, and it doesn't seem so long any more. ;)
Class  5 ~ May 3
  • First practice tapes came out for 2 groups. I was shaking in one, and had a short term memory loss in another. Moms are not satisfied with the results, and would like to add more time to practice this dance. We expect more from ourselves now, which is very nice.
Class  6 ~ May 10
  • While we sharpen our memories, we worked on the details of this piece. The second practice tapes came out nicely for 2 groups. Everybody has improved quite a bit, including myself. I only made one noticeable mistake. ;)
Class  7 ~ May 17

  • Our final recording! We made it from a different angle this time, instead of center front. This is a hard piece, each movement requires a great deal of control. I will keep this dance in our routine, and practice it every week. Everyone tried her best, good job!

Class  8 ~ May 24
  • 风含情水含笑
  • It's time to get the fan on. ;) We have an introduction to basic fan handling, turning it with single hand, both hands, open and close it sharply, turning while it is closed, shaking it. So much fun!
  • Remember the focus is still your body, the fan is just something extra beautiful. Dance with your body, taking the fan along.
Class  9 ~ May 31
  • Fan on, fan off, fan dropped! ;) It is not easy to handle it freely, we just keep practicing in class, and hopefully at home sometimes. This beautiful dance packed so many movements in one song, and we have only learned about 1:15 mins.
Class 10 ~ June 7
  • Practice, practice, and more practice. It takes some time to get the fan as an extension of your hand. ;) We need to practice turning the fan a lot more at home.
  • This dance is very beautiful and not easy. It packs so many movements in each 15 seconds interval. Patience is needed here. Let's go slow and we will master it in the end.
Class 11 ~ June 14
  • We ran into the hardest part of the dance, turning 360 degree with single leg support. A lot of laughter while we doing it! ;) We will keep practicing it and it will come slowly.
Class 12 ~ June 21
  • We have learned the first half of the dance, a total 2 minutes! We need to practice more, as we are a bit slower than it should be.
Class 13 ~ June 28

  • Last class of the session! We practiced and practiced, and videotaped for 2 groups. Although we are out of synch most of the time ;) , we have the base laid out nicely and will pick it up again in September. It will be a beautiful fan dance to perform in the end!
