Summer Breeze Dance ~ Fall 2016

Tuesdays 8 - 9 pm @ KRC

Fall is in full swing, so is our class.

We are back together with our beautiful fans. We will learn the complete fan piece during the first half of the term, then get our arms a thorough workout in the second half. Let's try to get these two dances polished as much as we can. Looking forward to a fun and rewarding term!
  • 风含情水含笑
  • Class 1 ~ September 13
    • After a short summer break, we take the first class to review our beautiful fan dance, patiently letting the muscle recalling the movements. ;) If it hasn't come back completely, it should by the end of next session.
  • Class 2 ~ September 20
    • We have reviewed all from last session, and learned a bit more. Repeat, repeat, and repeat, accuracy is the key for now. It is a pleasure to watch all the fans move so synchronized in the mirror. ;)
  • Class 3 ~ September 27
    • We have learned almost the whole dance. The second part is similar and actually easier than the first half, with 2 new moves. Only a couple of combinations to learn before we got it all!
  • Class 4 ~ October 4
    • :( I am sick. Class is cancelled.
  • Class 5 ~ October 11
    • We have learned all the moves! We managed to confuse each other, drop the fans on the floor here and there, forgot the move and froze for a sec here and there. ;) But we learned the whole piece today. There is a lot to memorize after the one hour per week class. This dance is very demanding, in terms of both memory and technique. As busy as modern moms can be, juggling work, kids, and household matters, we have limited time that can be spent on practicing dance. Let's try our best to find that time. We will polish the dance in the first half of next class, then the camera is on! ;)
  • Class 6 ~ October 18
    • recording take 1
    • I am quite happy with the first recordings, considering we only spend one hour a week practicing this dance together, everyone did a very good job! Now we can watch ourselves, we see the points that need to work on a bit more, and the places we missed in one way or another. I am sure the next recording will be truly exciting!
    • Our beautiful bamboo and silk fans are started to wear down. Before they do, we will make a wonderful recording for everyone to keep and watch again and again. ;)
  • Class 7 ~ October 25
    • recording take 2
    • Today's recording is a huge leap from last week. Thanks to everyone putting in the effort to practice over the weekend! That really shows. We will keep practice this dance every week afterwards. As every movement sinks into our muscle, we will polish it and dance it more beautifully.

  • 鸿雁
  • 鸿雁背面
  • Class 8 ~ November 1
    • Here we go again! This wonderful Mongolia themed dance is so elegant paired with the music. Our arms will get a full exercise, sore and toned in the end.
  • Class 9 ~ November 8
    • We come to the most difficult and beautiful part of the dance. Imaging we are the geese! ;) Long and strong wings make the perfect wave, from your shoulders to your fingertip. Lift and tap the foot softly like a bird.
  • Class 10 ~ November 15
    • We learned the complete piece! Hooray!
  • Class 11 ~ November 22
    • We forgot about most of the moves. :( It is hard for the working moms to find a time and space to practice during the week. Oh, well! We will remember when the music starts. ;) We broke down the hardest sequences and practiced it over and over. Most of us got the hang of it. I am sure everybody will get it in the end, and we will dance beautifully together.
  • Class 12 ~ November 29
    • Our last practice class before the recording. We spent time working on the details, again, and again, and again. It looks a lot nicer now. Looking forward to the recording sessions!
  • Class 13 ~ December 6
    • recording take 1
    • Finally it is time to perform! First recording came out fine, half of the class are still in the process of memorizing the movements. We will find time to practice more at home this week before next Tuesday.
  • Class 14 ~ December 13
    • recording take 2
    • Last class of the this year! We spend time taking pictures together, all smiling. ;) Then we recorded twice, with the colorful costumes and just pure black. Both came out beautifully! Hats off to the camera mom, who took the tripod and zoomed manually! It is much, much better than last week. Moms are eager to claim how much time they have spent during the last week to practice at home. What a commitment!
    • We can polish the dance even more later when we have chance. I am very happy to see that everybody has improved their movements, postures, as well as confidence. Enjoy!

Happy Holidays!
