Summer Breeze Dance ~ Winter 2016
Tuesday 8 - 9pm @ KRC, Winter 2016
Winter is upon us. Instead of hibernating, we decided to keep sweating and continue with another session. Yeah! ;)
- It is so nice to see everybody after the Christmas break! Gained some unwelcome curves. ;) It is a catch up and warm up session for all of us. We have a new room and some new moms joining us this session.
- Again, we will go slowly trying to exercise the principles, not just learn the movements. I will try to share my experience with the class, and encourage everyone to try their best to improve individually.
- Let's dance to reduce stress, express feelings, enjoy and please ourselves.
- By popular demand ;), we are going to learn/practice some of the dances in our Saturday dance group first
- We broke it down to 2 groups of combination, each is an 8 6-beat movements.
- group1 (twice)
- group2 (once)
- interlude
- group1 (once)
- group2 (twice)
- interlude
- We did 2 videos, they came out nicely. We learnt this dance in less than 40 minutes, and most of us got it right. We will review and polish it in our next class.
- I watched the videos many times to pick up the things we can work on in the next class, as well as the obvious for each individual. While we reviewing the dance, we improved quite a bit. The group danced so well that I had to record it, so we did it again, but this time without me in front. :) There we practiced another important skill, how to get over it when you make a mistake during dancing. Just forget about it with a smile and move on!
- This dance has been taught in detail in our Saturday's class, so here we made a few comments on the key things, focusing on the arms. Then we enjoyed the song, and did a recording for the whole group. Awesome!
- We started to learn a new dance. The movements are not too hard, it is more about the attitude. ;) We did 2 out of 3 groups of combination at 80% speed. Looking forward to complete it in our next class.
- We learned and practiced the whole dance at full speed. It is relatively a fast piece, so we had so many forgets and laughter. ;) In the end, we got the hang of it.
- There are 4 combos and they repeat as below (combo# - set repeat times):
- interlude (right foot in front, left foot move up, right foot half circle, open front, open back with left foot)
- #1 - 2, #2 - 1, #3 - 1
- #1 - 1, #2 - 1, #3 - 1, #4 - 2
- #1 - 2, #2 - 1, #3 - 1, #4 - 2
- interlude (open front, open back, with right foot)
- #1 - 2, #4 - 2, #1 - 2
- interlude (open front, drop, with right foot)
- We practiced and did 3 videos tonight, and we found a director! ;) There are many details we still need to work on, and moms are already asking for a re-take in next class.
- So far the weather on Tuesdays have been quite challenging! Today Ottawa made a record high daily snow fall of 50 cm, beats the 1947's record of 40.6 cm. We have to cancel the class. :(
- Here we go, our final recording!
- A new month, a new dance. This piece is a very interesting one. The first combo mimics the Beijing Opera solders, the cartoon way, very cute! Then it switches to the beautiful and soft movements of tea girls. It has different rhythms, and we will start at half beat, even quarter beat. Besides accuracy, the most important thing we will learn from it is changing of expressions.
- We learnt the whole dance! Very tricky. ;)
- It feels like a month has passed. ;) We reviewed and practiced over and over. Practice tapes come out nicely! We need to put more focus on the details, and give our best in the final performance.
- Our last class, and final performance of the winter session. As a new tradition, we took class pictures before we get too sweaty. ;) The final tape comes out nicely! This is the first time we wear our new uniform and have almost everybody in the camera, except a few absent. I am really happy with the dance and how we delivered it together.
- Thanks everybody for the time and effort! Hope you all had fun and joy!
