Summer Breeze Dance ~ Fall 2015

Wednesday 8 - 9pm, Fall 2015

  • Welcome back! We have a smaller class than summer, which gives us an opportunity to focus more on each individual. The summer session was a success, especially in terms of confidence building. I am so glad to see that almost everyone was comfortable to take a spot happily and dance with the camera rolling. Hooray! A good dancer must feel comfortable facing a camera or an audience.

  • This term we will continue the way we have learned from summer, one dance at a time from scratch. We will focusing on practicing the basics, good posture, and correct form. We will do only a few dances, and trying to get them polished and delivered with a good quality. I am looking forward to a final performance tape! ;)

Let's enjoy the music and express ourselves beautifully!

Class 1 ~ Sept 9

  • 水姻缘
  • This term, after warm up, we started basic stretch and hand positioning exercises with some nice piano pieces;
  • Everybody likes the new dance! It is soft and graceful, challenging and tones the body;
  • First tape went out very well. Moms learn so fast!

Class 2 ~ Sept 16

  • The video taping process has put a little pressure on everybody, including me. It is just the right dose for self improvement. Everyone wants to see the best of herself. The second tape came out above expectation!
  • Just keep it soft and smooth, pay attention to details
  • Always try your best to get the correct form, as time goes by, the level/angle of your movement will improve, and you will notice it. ;)

Class 3 ~ Sept 23

  • We have learnt the whole piece, a whopping 4:38 long! I made one mistake during the recording, sorry for the mislead. ;)
  • It is a very graceful piece, the more I do it, the more details I found that requires special attention; Keep yourself in control from beginning to end, never let your arms relax and let go;
  • Let's work on the transition next and make it as smooth as possible.

Class 4 ~ Sept 30

  • We have our final performance of 水姻缘 recorded for everybody. This ballet themed piece is so soft and graceful, yet it is full of strength, not easy to do it well. I wish we could practice more often in a week, the biggest problem is that most of us haven't memorized it yet. Still, it turns out pretty good! I am really happy with the videos!

Class 5 ~ Oct 7
  • I am so glad we rearranged the dances, this is a much simpler version, and a good introduction to Mongolian dance. We had so much fun playing with the elbows and wrists, especially elbows, which never need to stick out so much in other dances. ;) I think we can do a wonderful dance after 4 classes.
Class 6 ~ Oct 14

  • We learned the whole piece. We practiced at 80% speed to learn the details , and did the first tape at regular speed! We managed most of it. Phew!
  • The "wings" need to stick out a bit more, they were too subtle, we need the drama of it.
  • The turns need to be smoother and more stable.
  • The knees also need to bend down a bit more.
  • Don't forget to smile 8) and enjoy!

Class 7 ~ Oct 21

  • We memorized the whole piece! We practiced, explained the details, practiced again, corrected the form, practiced again, all at normal speed.
  • Everybody had a great workout tonight! Lots of sweat. ;) When you dance with a proper form, you will bend your knees, use your waist, use your hip, stretch your arms, turn your head, wear a smile on your face. All these are real hard work!
  • Tapes come out nicely. Our wings have improved dramatically!

Class 8 ~ Oct 28

  • A couple of moms are absent today, so we decided to postpone the final tape.
  • We get down to the details again, focusing on the side wings and knees. We need to get lower to create the wavy motion. At the same time, move smoothly like silk.
  • Tried one Latin flavored Zumba dance at the beginning of the class today! Not really interested. This is a classical and conservative group. ;) We will focus on dancing gracefully.

Class 9 ~ Nov 4
  • Final performance of 蒲公英的翅膀. We did it!

    Class 10 ~ Nov 11
    • 鸿雁(男) This is more like a textbook version, better to watch for now. ;)
    • Finally, we started learning this challenging piece! It draws everybody back, so we have a full class.
    • We learnt about 1/3 of the dance, simple moves, the Mongolian way. Everybody did well. We really enjoyed the music.
    Class 11 ~ Nov 18

    • Reviewed and learned the most different part of this piece, very hard, but we managed it at last. Some part of our brain must get tapped for the first time tonight, for all of us found the movements are so unnatural and weird, but looks beautiful. ;)

    Class 12 ~ Nov 25
    • We have learned the whole piece, still need a lot of practices. Our first tape will be next week. Looking forward to it! ;)
    Class 13 ~ Dec 2

    • After 3 weeks of learning and hard work, we made our first tape today! Hooray! Everybody tried their best, and enjoyed watching themselves. ;) Talking about enthusiasm, I was even asked to do a back demo video for this dance, although I shook a bit in the middle of it, feel exhausted. I have found several things to work on in our last class next week. Looking forward to it.

    Class 14 ~ Dec 9

    • This is our last class, we spent the first 20 minutes to take pictures together! Friendship blossoms while we dance.  ;) Here is our version of this graceful piece.
    • Happy Holidays!
